Capabilities
Designs de novo antibodies, nanobodies and miniproteins against a target epitope, reported to need only ~20 designs per target. Input (as described by the vendor): a target antigen and epitope; output: scFv/VHH/miniprotein designs. There is no public code, no downloadable weights and no self-serve API.
When to use it
Only relevant if you want to approach Chai as a partner. For in-house work today, the open antibody designers (RFantibody, Germinal, IgGM, mBER) are what you can actually run.

Commercial Licensing
Commercial rights — may a company use it?
UnverifiedLicence as writtenunverified (no public licence; access granted case-by-case under the vendor's Responsible Deployment policy)
No licence text exists to read. The announcement says access is being opened to 'a number of academic and industry partners' via an early-access sign-up and granted under a Responsible Deployment policy. Terms for a commercial partner are not published, so rights are unverified. Listed here because it is widely cited and people ask - not because it is usable off the shelf.
We could not find a published statement that settles it (often: the model weights carry no licence). Treat as unknown.
Commercial cost — is commercial use free of charge?
Cost unverifiedNo price is published. Access is by application, and nothing in the announcement states whether partners pay, grant rights, or share results.
Price and rights are separate: this panel is about money, the panel above is about permission.
- Commercial OK ≠ Free of charge. A tool can be licensed for company use and still need a paid licence for a dependency (BindCraft → PyRosetta).
- Free download ≠ Commercially licensed. Weights you can download at no cost may still forbid commercial use (AlphaFold 3).
- Unverified ≠ Commercially permitted. If no published statement settles it, treat it as unknown — not as a yes.
- Every component counts. Each status considers the code licence, the model-weights terms, required dependencies and any terms of use.
Model Weights
Weights not openly downloadable. A separate weights licence is Not documented as its own field; where weights carry different terms from the code, that is stated in the licence explanation above.
Dependencies
Not documented as a separate field. Any dependency that affects commercial use (for example a paid PyRosetta licence) is named in the licence and cost explanations above.
