Capabilities

Predicts the structure of a complex. Input: a JSON listing protein/RNA/DNA chains, ligands, ions and modifications; output: an all-atom predicted complex with pLDDT, PAE and ranking scores. Code is public; weights must be requested and are non-commercial.

When to use it

Best-in-class for complex/ligand-containing predictions if you qualify for the weights. For a company, the weight terms are a blocker, so use Boltz-2 or Chai-1 instead.

Commercial Licensing

Commercial rights — may a company use it?

Restricted

Licence as writtenApache License 2.0 (code); 'AlphaFold 3 Model Parameters Terms of Use' (weights)

Code is Apache-2.0, but the README states you may only use the model parameters if received directly from Google, and the weights Terms of Use make them available free of charge only for certain non-commercial uses, by or on behalf of non-commercial organisations. Commercial organisations cannot use the released weights under those terms.

Some commercial use is possible, but a component, dependency or condition needs a paid licence or carries obligations.

Commercial cost — is commercial use free of charge?

No commercial option at any price

There is no price at which a company can use the AlphaFold 3 weights: the Model Parameters Terms of Use restrict them to non-commercial use by non-commercial organisations, and Google does not offer a commercial licence for download. The code is free. For commercial work use Boltz-2 or Chai-1 instead.

Price and rights are separate: this panel is about money, the panel above is about permission.

  • Commercial OK ≠ Free of charge. A tool can be licensed for company use and still need a paid licence for a dependency (BindCraft → PyRosetta).
  • Free download ≠ Commercially licensed. Weights you can download at no cost may still forbid commercial use (AlphaFold 3).
  • Unverified ≠ Commercially permitted. If no published statement settles it, treat it as unknown — not as a yes.
  • Every component counts. Each status considers the code licence, the model-weights terms, required dependencies and any terms of use.

Model Weights

Weights not openly downloadable. A separate weights licence is Not documented as its own field; where weights carry different terms from the code, that is stated in the licence explanation above.

Dependencies

Not documented as a separate field. Any dependency that affects commercial use (for example a paid PyRosetta licence) is named in the licence and cost explanations above.
